Bare Minerals

I’ve been using Bare Mineral for about two years now on and off but I’m thinking about trying a new foundation.  The top three things I’ve loved about this makeup are:

1.  It’s great for people with oily and acne-prone skin.

2.  It doesn’t take long to apply.

3.  It’s actually good for your skin.  You’re not dumping a bunch of oily chemicals on your face.

Three things I do not love about Bare Minerals:

1.  When your skin changes in the winter (I have combination skin) it can look cakey.

2.  You cannot  repeatedly blend and apply it to acheive “full coverage.”  The makeup will end up looking caked on but you’ll still be spotty.  At least in my case.  It seems I could never completely get rid of uneven skin tone.

3.  It’s still powder and powder can settle into fine lies, creases or dry skin and ages you.

Overall, it’s great for young people who have breakouts, oily skin and a low-maintenance makeup routine.  There’s plenty of shades to choose from – it’s not like some of the drugstore foundation with a shelf of five shades. However, if you’re on the dry side, stick to other brands.   I’ve tried using it on my mom and it settled into her fine lines and looked mask-like even though I used very little.

Bare Minerals gets a lot of hype, but it’s still powder that can cast a grey shade from the sunscreen/powder combination especially in photos.  If you’re searching for the perfect foundation for a big event and you want perfect application, try brands like Era Face Spray On foundation, Hi-Def Glamour Creme FoundationsHD Dual Foundation,  Maifanshi Moisture Foundation, Face Atelier, La Mer, Makeup For Ever HD Professional, among others that pro makeup artists use.
